Fresh from a regional tour of the UK and a run in Watford, Rifco Theatre Company brings their newest musical spectacular for a run on the Queen Elizabeth Hall, on the Southbank. This is the story of Frankie, who’s ‘discovered’ by a Bollywood director working at a UK cinema, and is then whisked away to star in a Bollywood movie. However, it seems that being a Bollywood movie star isn’t all that it’s all cracked as much as be. Things begin to collapse, in an paradoxically Bollywood melodrama fashion.
This was, total, a really entertaining present, however with just a few flaws sadly. The musical numbers, choreography and costumes are vibrant and a variety of enjoyable, although they’re some technical points effecting the quantity of some the vocals. The performing is broad what with the melodrama, and there’s some tacky dialogue. But, the forged pulls it off for probably the most half. This makes the present transfer together with a enjoyable, propulsive power. Especially good are Geet Sagar as the standard Bollywood dangerous man Raju Sing, a massively entertaining, excessive character with a few of the finest traces. Also standing out is Katie Stasi as Goldy, the neglected finest buddy who has a variety of coronary heart and an excellent solo ballad.
Unfortunately, the plot does run out of steam nearer the top, and appears rushed to a conclusion and the considerably pressured blissful ending. However, that’s the essence of Bollywood but once more and for probably the most half, and the songs do assist reserve it.
Whilst it has its points, its nonetheless a enjoyable night out, and is value going to, particularly for many who have a gentle spot for Bollywood movies. Recommended, with caveats.
Frankie Goes to Bollywood runs by 18 August.
