Casey Jay Andrews is a daily fixture on the Fringe. She is a purveyor of small, touching tales and superbly constructed set designs. For this piece, she tells the story of Freddie, born throughout a meteor storm, who returns to her household house within the woods now inhabited solely by her grandad and his Scottie canine. The meteor storm has returned 33 years on, and he or she and her grandad exit to observe the capturing stars. Meanwhile, her grandad has a secret he has not shared together with her.
This is a beautiful, heartwarming story. It is a tribute to what makes a home a house, alongside addressing household drama and tensions, and the consolation that household can carry you if you’re battling loneliness and mid-30s angst.
Andrews is a heat, compelling storyteller whose use of small props and progressive, exact projections cleverly play with scale and successfully assist telling the story. The manufacturing is superbly soundtracked reside by Jack Brett, whose songs and constructing guitar loops have an uplifting, post-rock really feel to them.
The story is touching, with a beautiful consideration to element. Andrews manages to neatly weave in an emotional perspective into the big-picture universe she creates. This reminds us that no matter our small stature on this planet, our actions are all the time significant to those we love.
