Make quicker edits with Final Cut Pro’s Trim to Playhead
The magnetic timeline permits Final Cut Pro editors to trim with unprecedented fluidity. One of the hallmark capabilities of the magnetic timeline is the Trim Start/Trim End pair of shortcuts. Just float your cursor over part of a clip and press Opt+[ to trim the beginning of the clip to your playhead. Or you can use Opt+] to trim the top of the clip to the playhead or skimmer.

Trim higher
However, do you know that there’s one different choice? Under the Trim menu, you’ll see an choice for Trim to Playhead, and its shortcut is Opt+.
This useful shortcut notices the place your skimmer is in relation to the clip you’re over. So in case you’re in the direction of the start of the clip, and also you press Opt+, Final Cut Pro will trim the top of the clip to your playhead. Alternatively, in case you’re nearer to the top of the clip, it’ll trim the tail to the playhead.
This removes only one extra beat of you having to consider which bracket to make use of. Because 95 % of the time, if my playhead is in the direction of the top, I need to trim the top of the clip. And that’s only one extra method that Final Cut Pro can velocity up modifying and maintain you in a state of stream.
