This Valentine’s Day, younger British conductor Gabriella Teychenné and The Orchestra of Scottish Opera unite two influential Romantic masters: Wagner and Bruckner.
In this live performance on February 14 at Ayr Town Hall, which varieties a part of the thirty sixth Ayr Concert Series organized by volunteers from Ayr Arts Guild, are three excerpts from Wagner’s opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, showcasing The Orchestra at its most dramatic and ingenious.
This is carried out alongside the intimate Siegfried Idyll, initially a birthday reward for Wagner’s spouse. This contrasts superbly with Bruckner’s majestic Fourth Symphony, the ‘Romantic’. While Wagner weaves a private narrative, Bruckner channels the otherworldliness of Wagner along with his magical horn calls and shimmering evocation of the German forest.
With the lullaby qualities of the Idyll, vitality and pleasure of Die Meistersinger and the drama of the Symphony, that is an interesting programme for audiences of all ages and accessible as there might be 100 free tickets for younger musicians, dad and mom, and carers distributed throughout this yr’s Concert Series by means of the South Ayrshire Council Instrumental Music Service.
Conductor Gabriella Teychenné stated: ‘The majestic music of Wagner and Bruckner is in many ways larger than life. The opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg by Wagner is all about bravery, integrity, love, and sacrifice, while Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony takes the listener on a musical journey that surpasses fundamental emotion, and appears deep into the center of what it means to relish life, nature and its magic, and the surprise of human expertise. When joined collectively on this live performance, we hope to sit up for a night of romance, grandeur and wealthy symphonic sound.’
